LitLine Literary Contest Rules

 

 

Authors Wanda Moorman, Lee Meadows, Idelia Phillips, Brian Egeston, April Smith Coley, Vincent Alexandria, Sibylla Nash, Panderina Soumas, Nora DeLoach, Nika Beamon, Carl Lowe, Keith Stewart, Devan Wade and Nathasha Brooks-Harris have joined forces and are sponsoring the first literary contest in conjunction with LitLine online newsletter.  The contest begins July 1, 2001 and ends July 31, 2001.  The submission guidelines are as follows:

 

Submissions must be prepared in Microsoft Word and must be submitted electronically to Wanda Moorman at wem777@worldnet.att.net by midnight July 31, 2001, Eastern Time.  Submissions prepared in any other software program will be disqualified.  Submissions received after midnight, July 31, 2001, Eastern Time will be disqualified.  Only electronic submissions can be entered.  The contest is open to all unpublished writers and poets. All entries must include a statement indicating that the contestant is unpublished.

 

Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st prize - $200.00, plus a book from each sponsor author; 2nd prize - $100.00; 3rd prize - $50.00.  Judges for the competition are Lee Meadows, Idelia Phillips, April Smith Coley, Nika Beamon,Vincent Alexandria, Nathasha Brooks-Harris, Carl Lowe and Wanda Moorman.  Additional authors may be added after the contest begins.  Decisions by the judges are final.

 

Contestants will write a 250-word story based on the following introduction:

 

            With growing anxiety, she opened the door to find

 

Entries with less than 250 words or more than 250 words will automatically be disqualified.  The 250 total word count includes the nine introductory words provided above.  All submissions must begin with those nine words.  Titles and writer’s names are not to be added or included in the 250-word count.  Punctuation is not a word and will not be a part of the 250-word count.  In the email transmittal, contestants are to include their name, email address.  Submissions must be transmitted in a Microsoft Word attachment to the email message.  Failure to submit entries in accordance with the guidelines described herein will disqualify contestants.

 

Winners will be announced in the September issue of LitLine.  The 1st prizewinner’s story will be published in the September issue of LitLine.  The 2nd prizewinner’s story will be published in the October issue of LitLine.  The 3rd prizewinner’s story will be published in the November issue of LitLine. 

 

All entries must be original and must not violate any copyright laws.  By entering the contest, contestants attest to the originality of submissions and agree that entries do not violate any copyright or confidentiality laws.
